But not all global eSIMs are created equal!
The market is flooded with global connectivity options, each claiming to be the best value and save you hundreds of dollars on roaming costs. Yes, eSIMs will generally be cheaper than using your home phone plan in far-flung places, but now you have to compare eSIMs with other eSIMs to make sure you’re actually getting the best bang for your buck.
And by the way, some of the major providers are charging three, four, five times as much as their lesser-known competitors 😲 I guess they have to pay for their creator partnerships somehow…
As someone who travels full-time and entirely relies on eSIMs for all my data needs on the road, and who suffers from a severe case of analysis paralysis and needs to spreadsheet every purchase decision, I’ve done (too many) hours of global eSIM data plan research so you don’t have to. I’ve looked at more than 100 worldwide eSIM options from dozens of providers to put together this comprehensive guide to help you find the best choice for your trip.
This is a definitive list of the best value worldwide eSIMs for short trips, long trips, wide-reaching trips or just to use for emergency data, plus I’ve listed the different providers I checked out and their offerings so you can see my workings and quickly compare options instead of having to read fifty different global eSIM review posts. The guide also includes some tips on global eSIMs vs. regional/country eSIMs, and when to choose one vs. the other.

Global eSIM basics
What is an eSIM?
An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital SIM card built into your phone, which lets you install eSIMs from different providers without having to remove or insert a physical SIM card.
When you purchase an eSIM package, you’re essentially giving your phone instructions to connect to specific networks in specific countries for a specific length of time.
A 30 day eSIM for Australia will tell your phone that when you’re in Australia during that period, it can connect to certain networks to give you data access, no local SIM card or expensive roaming required. A global eSIM does the same thing, but it has connections to networks in multiple countries.
eSIMs can be used in conjunction with one physical SIM card too, so you can keep your home SIM active to receive important calls and texts, while using the eSIM for data.
Do global eSIMs cover every country in the world?
Despite what the name suggests, no “global eSIM” is truly global.
Providers use terms like “global eSIM”, “international eSIM” and “worldwide eSIM'” to describe their widest-coverage offerings, but actual country counts vary dramatically from 50 to 180 countries depending on the provider.
Roamless is a pay-as-you-go global roaming eSIM which covers 180 countries (the best of any eSIM), but they don’t have single-purchase global data plans like most of the other options. Of the global data plans (either fixed or unlimited), the best coverage is Ubigi with 166 countries, but you pay a premium for that!
Some eSIM providers claim to cover “every country in the world”, but they’re usually referring to their library of single-country plans that you can purchase separately. Even then there are notable gaps, like many countries in Africa with limited telecommunications networks, or countries with heavy government controls on communication infrastructure.
🔎 A quick note: Some eSIM providers are more transparent than other regarding their coverage, the good ones list them out in alphabetical order or by continent, but some hide them behind forms (so you have to search for each country manually) or list them in random order so it’s hard to compare. Some also claim their coverage as ‘200+ destinations’ when that list includes Europe, the Balkans and Albania as separate destinations, or that count non-sovereign territories as separate destinations whereas their competitors might only count sovereign states. In the eSIM provider section I’ve noted the actual country count of each provider based on the list on their website, only counting sovereign countries to make it a fair comparison.
Global eSIMs vs. regional or country eSIMs
If you’re setting off on a big trip which crosses oceans and borders, you’ve got three eSIM options to consider: country-specific, regional, or global. Each has its pros and cons:
Global eSIMs
- Most convenient, only need to install it once
- No need to research options for each destination
- Options for extended periods from 6 months to 1 year, vs. 30 days for many country-specific SIMs
- Highest cost per GB (generally $1-2 per GB for the best packages)
- Can experience higher latency as your data might be routed through far-away servers
- Limited high data options
- Ideal for whirlwind multi-continent trips or for travellers who use minimal data and want simplicity
- Extended eSIMs are great for emergency back up data to use during stopovers or if your local eSIM has issues
Regional eSIMs
- Coverage for specific continents or regions (like the Balkans, Southeast Asia, or the Middle East and North Africa)
- Cheaper per GB than most global eSIMs but more expensive than country-specific ones
- Perfect if you’re only spending a few days in each country but are sticking to one region
- Some regions have high data options (e.g. 200GB in Europe)
- Need to check specific country coverage as ‘Europe’ eSIMs often don’t cover the Balkan countries and might not cover non-EU like Switzerland
Country eSIMs
- Lowest cost per GB
- Some countries have very high data options (1TB in Montenegro for $22.99 🤯)
- Often faster speeds due to direct access to local networks
- Only useful within that country so you don’t want to buy more than you’ll use
- Requires research for every country
- Need to download and install new eSIMs each time you cross a border
The best choice completely depends on your itinerary, data needs and whether you want to prioritise ease-of-use or value for money, and you could always use a global eSIM to cover shorter stays in various countries while using regional or country eSIMs for places you’re spending more time in.
You also might want to install a global eSIM as a back up to switch on for emergency data in any country in case your local eSIM runs out or has issues.
eSIMs vs. physical local SIMs
Again, this one comes down to your priorities.
I find eSIMs extremely convenient, no need to wait in line at an airport stall or to switch physical SIMs and risk losing your home SIM to the deep, dark depths of a suitcase pocket. I also love having access to my normal SIM card while using eSIMs for data, because I can receive two-factor-authentication texts and not get locked out of my internet banking.
But if you’re budget-conscious, don’t mind extra time at the airport and aren’t fussed about needing access to your home number, physical local SIMs might provide better value in some countries.

SimLocal’s Three eSIMs came out on top in my guide to the best UK eSIMs too (only £0.10 per GB for a 200GB eSIM 😱), their global eSIM options aren’t quiiiite as impressive but they still reign supreme over all the alternatives when you look at cost per GB, with 18GB for $25.25 ($1.40 per GB) or 30GB for $44 ($1.47 per GB).

Jetpac is a major player in the eSIM industry, and they always have cheaper per GB prices than its big competitors like Airalo and Saily.
The 30GB 30 day Jetpac eSIM is the best value option if you want 5G compatibility at $2.17 per GB, though in some countries with limited or no 5G infrastructure you could still be limited to 4G/LTE speeds.
It’s worth noting that Jetpac has a higher data option with 40GB, but it’s $140USD which makes it $3.50 per GB and much worse value than the 30GB option. Weird that they even offer this!
Pros of the 30GB Jetpac global eSIM
- Can use 5G networks in loads of countries like the USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand and Canada
- Good coverage with 86 countries across the world
- 30GB is a decent amount of data for most typical travellers using maps, social media and general research
Cons of the 30GB Jetpac global eSIM
- Quite a bit more expensive than the Three 4G option above
- Only valid for 30 days

50GB of data with 360 days of validity (yes, 360 and not 365 haha) make it ideal for long-term travellers who can stick to hotel WiFi or who want to supplement with regional/country eSIMs for their main data use.

- Hotspot: Yes, unlimited (unlike Holafly’s normal pay-by-day plans which limit hotspotting to 500MB-1GB per day depending on the country you’re in)

If you’ve seen any of my eSIM content before then you might be surprised to see Holafly listed as my recommended unlimited global eSIM, because their pay-by-day plans are generally pretty shit value and I’ve made that clear in my other comparisons.
BUT I need to give credit where credit is due, they have a new monthly plan available called Holafly Connect which ends up being the best value unlimited plan by a long shot, provided you’re using it for 30 days (or multiples of 30 days), coming out at just $2.16 per day.
My main issue with Holafly’s normal unlimited eSIMs, where you choose a number of days to be covered, is that they limit hotspot usage to only 500MB-1GB per day (depending on what country you’re in) which for me defeats the purpose of unlimited data, as I need an eSIM that I can share with my iPad and laptop in case my WiFi sucks. This Holafly Connect Unlimited plan has unlimited hotspotting to other devices, a game-changer!
⏰ The $64.90 price for Holafly Connect Unlimited is being displayed as a ‘special launch price’ so I’m not sure how long it’ll last for, as of April 2025 Holafly are barely even promoting this plan (it’s not mentioned on their homepage or menu, I only found it through a Google search) so it might be brand new and that price could change at any time.

- Simple installation and clear instructions on their website for troubleshooting

Cons of the Holafly Connect Unlimited plan
- Monthly plan that automatically renews, so once you no longer need it you need to remember to cancel it or you’ll be charged
- T&Cs mention a fair use policy based on local providers but there’s no further info, heavy use in one day might result in lower speeds
- $64.90 still isn’t cheap, lower data users could get better value with the Sim Local Three options or heavy users might be best with a high data regional or country eSIM
6. Best global eSIM for travel industry professionals: 50GB, 365 days for $119 with StaffTraveler
- Price & data: 50GB for $119
- Price per GB: $2.38
- Validity: 365 days
- Coverage: They say 160+ countries, my count says 147 countries
- Notable exclusions: Covers the Maldives + other often-left-out tourist spots, but still has coverage gaps in Africa and the Pacific Islands
- Speed: 5G
- Hotspot: Yes
- Local number or data-only: Data-only
StaffTraveller targets professions like pilots, flight attendants and other jobs which require frequent trips but typically short stays, with far-reaching coverage and a one year validity for their eSIMs.
They have the highest coverage I could find, the exclusions are mostly limited to politically unstable regions or small nations with limited comms infrastructure.
50GB of 5G data for a year is enough for travel professionals or frequent conference attendees who just need to cover extended layovers, crew rest periods abroad or light data usage for exploring between hotel or conference WiFi.
Pros of the 50GB StaffTraveler eSIM
- Excellent coverage of 147 countries, including almost all major tourism or conference destinations
- 5G speed for the fast connection possible
- One year validity
Cons of the 50GB StaffTraveler eSIM
- A bit more expensive than GlobalYO ($2.38 per GB vs. $1.80 per GB) but with 5G capability and better coverage for more remote / less touristy countries
- Can’t be reinstalled on a new device if you lose or damage your phone within the year
7. Best flexible global eSIM plan: Firsty First Class
- Price & data: Unlimited data, price depends on countries and number of days
- Price per day: from €2.50 per day depending on your plan and what countries you choose
- Validity: 1-30 days but you can pause your plan and use the days later if you need to (which is HUGE!)
- Coverage: They claim “Firsty’s global eSIM covers the entire world” (quote from their homepage) but I counted 140 countries
- Notable exclusions: Maldives, Nicaragua, Nepal, most of Africa
- Speed: Up to 5GB of max speed data per day
- Hotspot: Yes
- Local number or data-only: Data-only
Firsty has a few different plan options which I explain in more detail in the providers section below, but their First Class plan is the most flexible global eSIM on the market so for right now I’ll focus on that one.
Firsty First Class is like a DIY-eSIM, you install the eSIM once and then you can choose countries, choose the number of days you want, and even pause the eSIM to use remaining days later. This feature is what makes it really attractive!
The per-day price works in the same way as Holafly’s pay-per-day option, with cheaper per day prices for longer coverage, and the countries you select also impact the final price.
I’ve listed a bunch of example combinations and their prices in the Firsty breakdown in the next section, but their best deal for a 30 day eSIM is €75 which covers countries like Australia, New Zealand, the USA, the UK, Italy, France, Japan, Thailand, Singapore and South Africa.
Pros of a Firsty First Class eSIM
- Super flexible, choose your countries and choose the number of days you want
- Up to 5GB of high speed data per day, unlimited at lower speeds
- Unlimited hotspotting
- It’s the only pause-able eSIM on the market right now (based on my extensive research but please let me know in the comments if you know of any others) and your data credit never expires
- With the pause function you can pause it when you’re going off the grid, when you’re somewhere with public WiFi or with cheap local eSIMs, or when you get home until your next trip
- Live chat with quick response times from actual humans, they got back to me with detailed answers to my questions in just a few minutes
Cons of a Firsty First Class eSIM
- Snazzy marketing material but lots of unclear, confusing or just incorrect info on their website
- Claims to be ‘one eSIM for every country’ but I counted 140 countries, and some countries can’t be combined in the same plan
- Claims to offer 5GB of high speed data every day but their customer service team said (exact quote) “Though data amount varies per country, some got 5gb, 2.5gb and some only has 1gb” so I’m not sure if the 5GB allowance is true
8. Best global roaming eSIM to use as an emergency back up: Roamless
- Price & data: Pay-as-you-go pricing structure with credit you top up
- Price per GB: Varies by country but starts from $2.45 per GB for countries like Australia, New Zealand, most of western and central Europe, the USA and Canada, etc.
- Validity: Doesn’t expire, use it when you need it
- Coverage: They say 204 destinations, I counted 180 countries
- Notable exclusions: The Maldives still doesn’t make it into their extensive coverage!
- Speed: 5G
- Hotspot: Yes
- Local number or data-only: Data-only but you can use your credit for in-app calls, which lets you call actual phone numbers through the Roamless app
Roamless is another disrupter in the eSIM industry, one eSIM gives you pay-as-you-go access to mobile data and in-app calls in 180 countries around the world. Top up your funds and then just switch on the eSIM when you need to use it, your funds never expire.
It’s like a hybrid of typical global eSIMs and international roaming plans, a global roaming eSIM if you will, where you’re only charged for your actual usage based on the pay-as-you-go rates in that country, but with significantly lower prices than what most providers would charge you for international roaming.
The per GB prices are certainly not as cheap as buying regional or country eSIMs (e.g. $2.45/GB for the UK vs. a SimLocal UK eSIM from $0.13-0.40/GB), but they cover almost every country in the world so having funds in there as an emergency means you’ll never be stuck without any connectivity.
Pros of the Roamless eSIM
- Only pay for what you use, no wasted data
- Credit never expires so you can top up at any time and know it’s there for any future emergencies
- Best coverage of any eSIM on this list
- Probably (significantly) cheaper than what your home provider would charge for international data roaming
- You can use funds for in-app calls to local numbers like hotels, restaurants or tour companies
- One eSIM for everywhere it covers, no need to install different eSIMs or even purchase different plans when you cross borders

- Routes through Hong Kong which can result in higher latency
- TikTok doesn’t work on this eSIM because it’s blocked in Hong Kong, to use TikTok you need to be connected to a WiFi network and switch off mobile data
- No coverage outside of those countries
Global eSIM providers & their options
Most ‘best eSIM’ round ups list the same major three to five providers who pay hefty commissions to the people that promote them, and barely any of them actually compare packages and benefits to help their readers maximise their value for money.
I’ve spent toooo long on this research to leave anyone thinking that you’re getting the best deal from the eSIM brands that flood your social media feed, so I wanted to share some more details of all the providers I compared, their different global eSIM options, and then you’ll see exactly how I came to these conclusions.

Jetpac
🌍 Jetpac’s global eSIMs cover 86 countries
Jetpac is one of the more budget-friendly major eSIM providers, with packages for loads of single countries as well as wider regions and a global eSIM that covers 95 countries.
One cool benefit with Jetpac is that you can register your upcoming flight on the app (at least 2 hours before departure) and add one companion, and if your flight is delayed one hour or more, you’ll each get a free LoungeKey™ voucher for the delay. This is only valid at participating lounges (1100 worldwide) and you can only register two flights per data pack so I wouldn’t say you should buy a Jetpac purely for this reason, but it could be a handy perk as a bonus.

GlobalYO is an eSIM provider I hadn’t heard of until researching this blog post, their branding is a bit Mojo-Jojo-esque and their copywriting has almost certainly been written by ChatGPT with instructions to ‘make it more Gen Z’, but their year-long 50GB 4G World Explorer 101 eSIM is great value.

🌍 Holafly’s global eSIM plans cover 145 countries
Holafly is the world leader for unlimited data eSIMs, and they have a mega marketing budget for creator partnerships so you’ve probably seen them all over Instagram and TikTok.
Their unlimited eSIMs seem pretty good on the surface, they have reliable 5G connections in loads of countries around the globe, but the per-day price actually ends up being way worse value than most fixed-data eSIM options and they limit hotspotting to 500MB-1GB per day depending on the country, so you’re restricted in terms of sharing data with other devices.
BUT while researching this blog post, I discovered a new Holafly option which is a gamechanger 👀 Holafly Connect Unlimited is a monthly plan with unlimited data and unlimited hotspotting (no daily limits) in 145 countries around the globe for $64.90, renewing monthly but cancellable at any time before the next month begins. One of my go-to eSIM marketplaces, MobiMatter’s country or regional eSIMs are almost always on the podium in the top three best value options for specific destinations. Their global options are limited, but they do have some fantastic multi-country options if you’re looking for a combo of particular places rather than wide-reaching coverage.
MobiMatter sells eSIMs from local suppliers that aren’t usually advertised or offered to tourists, and their website is super easy to use with a ‘price per GB’ sort function so you can make sure you’re getting the best bang for your buck.

Firsty is a global eSIM start up that does things a little differently, they have three different plans and an industry-first pause feature that lets you stop and start your eSIM service as needed.
Their plans are:
- Firsty Free: Free to sign up, watch ads in exchange for low-speed data credits (perfect for emergency access)
- Comfort+: 5 Mbps speeds for 1.5GB daily, then unlimited at 512 Kbps (no hotspotting)
- First Class: Up to 5GB max-speed data daily with hotspotting included
What sets Firsty apart is their pause function, which no other provider offers! If you’re going hiking off the grid, or parking up at a resort with WiFi for a few rest days, or have some time at home before your next trip, you can pause and resume your eSIM plan as needed for no extra cost.
Pricing varies based on country tiers, with their best value plan at €2.50/day (€75/month) for Tier A countries including the UK, USA, most of Europe, Australia, Thailand, and Japan. Adding Tier B countries (e.g. UAE, Vietnam, South Korea, Fiji) increases the daily rate to €3, while Tier C (e.g. Egypt) jumps to €4.50/day. I’m not sure how many tiers they have, this info isn’t clear on their website, but some destinations (Oman, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Samoa) shoot the daily cost up to €10, so €300 for 30 days. Ouch.
Though they claim to cover “the entire world” throughout their website, Firsty actually works in 140 countries according to the list I got from their customer service team, and some countries can’t be combined on the same plan.
They have very engaging branding, a slick website and app, and the game-changing pause feature, butttttt their lack of transparency around coverage and pricing tiers is really off-putting. I did send them this feedback though so hopefully that makes it through to the right people and they can make some changes, because the potential is certainly there!
Even if you’re not going to buy one of their eSIM plans, it’s worth having the Firsty app on your phone and setting up Firsty Free so you if you get stuck somewhere with no data connection, you can always watch a few ads to get enough credit to message someone for help or to grab an Uber.

Roamless
🌍 The Roamless global eSIM works in 180 countries, but it’s pay-as-you-go so this isn’t one eSIM plan
Another option that offers connectivity without a fixed data plan or unlimited coverage for a set number of days, Roamless is like a hybrid of typical global eSIMs and international roaming plans, or a global roaming eSIM if you will.
You top up your Roamless Wallet with however much credit you want, then simply turn on the eSIM whenever you want to use it. You’re only charged for your actual usage based on the pay-as-you-go rates in that country, these rates are likely higher than buying a country-specific eSIM, but probably significantly lower than what your home SIM provider would charge you for international roaming.
Roamless also lets you use your funds for in-app phone calls to local numbers, so you can call accommodation or activity operators if you need to get in touch with them urgently and can’t wait for an email response.
They cover 180 destinations in total, which is the best coverage out of any global eSIM I found, but they don’t have eSIM plans like all the other options so it’s not really a fair comparison.

🌍 Maya’s global eSIMs cover 104 countries
Maya offers fixed data packages as well as unlimited international eSIMs that cover 104 countries (they claim 119 but that includes territories).
They have a build-your-own eSIM system where you select the data you want and then how long you want it to last (5/10/15/30 days), with longer validity costing a bit extra.
With their unlimited eSIMs you can choose from 3GB or 5GB max speed data per day, then if you hit your daily limit you get unlimited data at 1Mbps speeds.
The value for money for their global eSIMs is on the lower end of the scale (some of their unlimited country-specific SIMs aren’t too bad), but I do love the transparency of their pricing and inclusions.

Airalo is one of the biggest eSIM providers globally, you’ve probably heard of them before and have maybe seen them on your Instagram feed or at the top of other ‘best eSIM’ articles.
Do not fall for their marketing.
They do have great coverage but their eSIMs are incredibly overpriced, there are better value options!

Ubigi has had some decent value eSIMs for specific countries I’ve been to (they’re the best unlimited data eSIM in the UK with 5G speeds), but their worldwide eSIMs are up there with the most expensive options.
Their coverage is brilliant though, the best of any fixed data or unlimited global eSIM (not including Roamless which is pay-as-you-go), so if your travels are taking you way off the beaten track then it might be worth considering.

Their global eSIM has fantastic coverage across 156 countries, but at only 14 days validity it’s unlikely to be worth it.

Cruise travellers are the main target market for GigSky, they have cruise eSIMs which keep you connected at sea if your ship is cellular-enabled (for a price!).

FlexiRoam has the highest-data one year plan I could find, but they’re prohibitively expensive upfront. Their eSIMs are transferable between devices (unlike many eSIMs which are single install only) *but* to transfer you have to delete the eSIM from the old device, so if your phone is lost or stolen and still has the eSIM installed, there’s no way to transfer it.
Please, for the love of travel, do not spend $488 on a year-long eSIM and run the risk of losing that money if you get pickpocketed in an Italian train station.

🌍 Nomad’s global eSIMs range in their cover, but they include territories or islands in their ‘country’ count which skews numbers
Nomad is best known for having budget-friendly eSIMs for Asia (both regional and country-specific), but their global eSIMs are a mixed bag.
They have two different global eSIM options, ‘Global’ has lower data amounts and shorter packages for either 106 or 112 countries (actual coverage is 96 and 95 respectively), and ‘Global-EX’ has higher data amounts and extended validity for either 54 or 82 countries (actual coverage 44 and 71 respectively.
Remember: If there’s no number of days specified, that eSIM has the typical 30 day validity.
Nomad ‘Global 106’ eSIMs, better coverage of Middle East & Africa:
- 5GB for $36 ($7.20/GB)
- 3GB for $26 ($8.67/GB)

GoMoWorld doesn’t have any global eSIM packages, they only have regional plans for Europe or some groups of countries, then country-specific plans.
Airhub
Airhub’s 40GB global eSIM actually came out as the best value eSIM overall with a price per GB of only $0.81, but after doing my due diligence it was immediately clear that the company isn’t trustworthy or reliable. A simple Google of ‘Airhub reviews’ tells you all you need to know!
People have reported paying for a SIM and then never being able to install it, or having an eSIM that works perfectly for a few days before stopping completely, with customer service very slow to respond, unhelpful, and not following through with their promised 30 day money back guarantee.
Their website is super unclear with product info, there’s no info on data speed or what networks they use, their customer service said hotspotting is included for most countries but this isn’t mentioned anywhere in the speciifc eSIM details, and their FAQs are full of spelling and grammar mistakes which is a red flag.
I’m not including Airhub in any of my comparisons because I don’t want anyone wasting their money on something that’s too good to be true. Buy at your own risk!

Global eSIM FAQs
Can I make calls with a global eSIM?
Most global eSIMs are data-only and don’t include voice calling capabilities or a local phone number, but you can make data-based calls through apps like WhatsApp, Messenger etc.
Roamless is a global roaming eSIM which lets you use your credit for calling local numbers at a price per minute rate, so if you think this is something you need then check them out.
Can I keep my phone number while using an eSIM?
Yes, which is why eSIMs are so great! You can keep your home SIM switched on to receive calls and texts like two factor authentication messages, but use the eSIM for data.
Do global eSIMs allow hotspotting?
Most global eSIMs allow hotspotting, but not all. Some unlimited global eSIMs have hotspotting limits per day too. you need to check the product info for the specific eSIMs you’re looking at to confirm their tethering rules.
Are global eSIMs better than single country eSIMs?
It depends on your trip and your priorities. Global eSIMs are typically more expensive than regional of single-country eSIMs, but they’re super convenient and save time! If you’re going on a trip that covers a lot of ground then a global eSIM might work out to be better value than buying lots of small single-country eSIMs, or you could use a global eSIM as an emergency data back up.
Can I switch eSIMs between devices?
Generally no, most eSIMs only allow for installation on one device and can’t be transferred. There are some eSIM providers that allow transferable eSIMs, but these require the eSIM to be deleted off the initial device first, so it won’t work if the device was lost, damaged or stolen.
Can I have multiple eSIMs on one device?
Yup, most eSIM-compatible devices allow 5-10+ eSIMs to be installed, but only one or two can be active at once.
Will my global eSIM work in (insert country here)?
This entirely depends on the provider’s coverage, there is no eSIM which covers every single country from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe and everything in between. Some supposedly ‘global’ eSIMs only cover 30 countries, I’ve only included eSIMs with coverage of 50 or more countries, and the highest coverage of any global eSIM I could find is Roamless with 180 countries (pay-as-you-go data) or Ubigi with 166 countries (typical fixed data plan).
Final thoughts on the best global eSIMs
After spending farrrr too many hours researching global eSIM options, I hope this guide has helped demystify the confusing world of international connectivity!
The reality is that there’s no one-size-fits-all solution, so the best global travel eSIM for you will totally depend on your data requirements, coverage needs, budget and technological savviness.
SimLocal offers unbeatable value with their Three 18GB/30GB/90GB options provided they cover where you’re going, GlobalYO is pricier but has one-year options with good coverage, and Ubigi’s got most of the globe included in their eSIMs but they are significantly more expensive.
High data users should consider Holafly’s new Connect Unlimited plan (though their special launch price may not last long), Firsty’s pause feature is revolutionary for those with unpredictable itineraries (hi, me too!), and the Roamless pay-as-you-go credit system is a fantastic security blanket in case you need emergency data or to make a local call.
You could also consider a hybrid approach, combining a good value global eSIM for short stays in faraway places and then getting a regional or country eSIM for longer periods in one place.

Trains 🚂 If I’m travelling through Europe, I try to travel by train wherever possible! For an extended trip (2+ weeks) I’ll calculate if a Eurail Pass is worth it, or I’ll book point-to-point tickets through RailEurope or the local train operator.
Accommodation 🛎️ I book almost all of my accommodation through booking.com, they have a user-friendly website + app and many of their options are free cancellation, easily cancelled with a simple click of a button.
Activities 🗽I use GetYourGuide, Klook and Viator to look for activities in the places I visit, or I just Google ‘things to do in [city]’! P.S. If you book anything on Klook you can use the promocode FINDINGALEXXKLOOK to get 10% off
Travel cards 💳 I’m a Wise gal through and through, they’ve been my chosen travel card for more than five years now. You can easily top up your card from your bank account or through Apple Pay, convert your money to local currency, and spend money with minimal fees and the best exchange rates around.
Travel insurance 🩺 I use Cover-More NZ travel insurance for my own trips, I have a comprehensive policy and I’ve only had good experiences with them. Cover-More also has an Australian company, but if you’re from elsewhere then two popular insurance options for global travellers are SafetyWing (cheaper policy, lower coverage) and World Nomads (more expensive but significantly better coverage).
Luggage 💼 I travel with Samsonite Cosmolite suitcases, one 75cm check in bag and a 55cm carry on bag, and I absolutely adore them and will never travel with anything else! They are SUPER lightweight (2.8kg and 1.9kg respectively) so I have much more space for my actual stuff.
Camera gear 📸 I use a iPhone 15 Pro Max for phone photos/videos, and my camera kit includes a Lumix S9 (incredible lightweight full-frame camera, a game changer for travel creators!) with a 20-60mm lens, a Lumix G9 with an 8-18mm and 12-60mm lens, a DJI Mini 3 Pro drone and a GoPro Hero 10. I do all my writing and editing on my ASUS Zenbook 14, it’s lightweight but powerful enough for photo editing and intense blogging sessions.
