About Finding Alexx

Kia ora! I’m Alexx, a solo female traveller, photographer and full-time travel blogger from Aotearoa New Zealand 🥝

I’ve explored 60+ countries, spent the past seven years living out of a suitcase, and made it my mission to help you make the most of your time and money while seeing the world.

I created Finding Alexx to empower women to travel confidently, safely and responsibly, all without needing a bottomless bank account or unlimited annual leave.

If you’re after honest advice, no-fly itineraries, mid-budget travel guides, solo travel tips, and real-talk reviews of the best (and worst) experiences around the globe, then you’re in the right place.

What you'll find here

  • Ultra-detailed itineraries that cover literally everything you need to know to plan the ultimate trip. I’ll tell you the best things to do, top places to stay for different budgets, bucket list experiences worth the splurge, meals that will change your life, how to get from A to B, and more.
  •
  • Solo travel guides for women who want to know what to expect before they head somewhere solo.
  •
  • Mid-budget travel hacks for those of us beyond our backpacker days but not quite at the 5* every night stage. I like to call us “in-between travellers”.
  •
  • Responsible travel tips to help protect the places and communities we’re lucky enough to visit.
  •
  • Practical travel advice about the less glamorous stuff like finding cheap flights, budgeting for long trips, sorting travel insurance (yes, you need it) and more.
  •
  • Real-life travel stories from my own adventures all over the world, with a healthy dose of misadventures too!

Why trust me?

Because I’ve been there, done that, got the postcard! I live and breathe travel for 75% of the year while living on the road, and the other 25% I’m at home chained to my desk writing about everything I just experienced to help you plan your next trip.

I’ve travelled to 60+ countries in total, including 40+ totally solo.

I spent six years working in marketing at a global travel agency before diving into blogging & content full time.

I started Finding Alexx in 2016 as a way to keep my friends and family up to date with my adventures, and it’s been my full-time job since 2019.

I’ve travelled pretty much every way you can think of. Flights, trains, ferries, yachts, buses, road trips. Camping, campervanning, hostels, apartments, house-sitting, luxe hotels, fancy resorts. City breaks, year-long round the world trips, university exchange, living abroad. Solo travel, girls’ trips, romantic getaways, family adventures, small group tours with strangers.

I’m always 100% honest about my travel experiences. I’m a firm believer that sugar-coated travel content leads to unrealistic expectations, contributes to overtourism, and ultimately lets everyone down. I promise you’ll always get the truth from me!

My mission

I want Finding Alexx to be:

1. A go-to resource for travellers who want value-packed epic adventures on an in-between budget

2. A trusted space for solo female travellers navigating the highs and lows of travelling alone

3. A no-BS zone where you can find honest and unbiased reviews of destinations and travel experiences.

My story (the short version!)

2012: University exchange to California at 19 (first solo trip!)

2013-2017: Worked in travel marketing for STA Travel NZ

2017-2019: Moved to London and joined STA Travel’s global marketing team, started exploring Europe on weekends and sharing my adventures here on findingalexx.com

2019: Quit corporate life, launched the 52 countries in 52 weeks project

2020: Got stranded on a literal quarantine island in the Philippines at the start of the pandemic

2020-2022: Stuck in New Zealand with closed borders and minimal travel work, but looooads of time to start taking my blogging career seriously

2023-2025: Back to living out of a suitcase, travelling 9-10 months of the year with 2-3 months at home to rest and recuperate before doing it all again!

My values

Authenticity: I’ll share the full story, not just the curated moments

Relatability: I travel on an in-between budget, where I balance cheap travel (private rooms in hostels or guesthouses, street food or supermarket meals) with treat yourself moments that elevate a trip (fancy stays, epic adventures, mind-blowing meals). I’m not a 5*-every-night kinda gal, most of the things I do are within reach for a typical mid-range traveller.

Practicality: You’ll find loads of actually helpful information which will make trip planning so much easier, rather than pretty photos with no value (but I try and include lots of pretty photos too haha).

Responsible tourism: I’ve been fortunate enough to work on the other side of the tourism industry where I had a front row seat to the benefits but also the overwhelming negatives of tourism, and now responsible tourism is woven throughout every trip and every piece of content I share.

Honesty: I partner with many travel brands while I’m on the road but I guarantee you no partnership will ever stop me from being honest about my experiences. I only work with brands who allow me full editorial control, I turn down many opportunities which would require me to stick to a designated script or get full sign off before posting, and I promise I will always share my true experience regardless of business relationship. Terrible choice for my bank account, great choice for audience trust.
