If you’re like me and want to keep your travel lifestyle as eco-friendly as possible, Out of the Woods bags are a brilliant addition to your packing list.
Don’t you love it when you discover a product that’s stylish, sustainable and genuinely useful? That’s how I feel about Out of the Woods, my new favourite travel-friendly bags and backpacks!
Here’s why Out of the Woods and their products are a gamechanger for sustainability-focused travelers.
They have a brilliant range of products
Out of the Woods have a fantastic range of bags, backpacks, totes and coolers to suit your lifestyle, whether you’re shopping for fresh produce at local markets, heading into a cafĂ© for a busy digital nomad day, or popping down to the beach for a sunset picnic.
I particularly love their Washable Paper Backpack for work and admin days (it’s got a laptop sleeve inside), the Mini Shopper Lunch for a solo picnic and the Iconic Shopper for a supermarket top up or market trip.

They’re super sustainable and ethically-made
Out of the Woods uses what they call ‘Supernatural Paper’ for all their bags, which is made from tree cellulose (from trees in responsibly-managed forests no less) and that means they have a significantly lower carbon footprint than traditional materials used in bags and backpacks. It’s 100% animal-free and vegan-friendly, and 93% of the water used to make the bags is returned back to the source (a river in Germany) in its original form.
They also have a rainwater recycling program at their factory, so they do what they can at every step of the production process to minimize any negative impact and maximize the positive.
Their commitment to sustainability doesn’t stop at the materials either, Out of the Woods’ whole supply chain meets high ethical standards, including SA8000 certification for their factory in Vietnam which is an internationally-recognised standard of fair and decent treatment of employees.
They’re washable
Now this one is a true gamechanger, Out of the Woods’ non-insulated bags are fully washable and you can even pop them in the washing machine! You can either hand wash them in warm water with a mild detergent, or throw them in a cold wash and hang them out upside-down to dry.
This is so perfect for travel, too many times have I been to a market and a rogue pot of dip has had the lid unclicked and leaked olive tapenade through my tote bag. No more, just a quick wash cycle and I’m back to shopping with ease.
For the insulated bags like the cooler and wine valet, you can wipe down both the inside and outside with a wet cloth and you won’t do any damage to the material.
They’re lightweight and travel-friendly
One of the hard things about travelling full-time is that I have to be ultra aware of the weight of my suitcase, and so many nice backpacks and coolers are pretty bulky and heavy.
Luckily the Supernatural Paper used in these funky bags is not only light in environmental impact but also light in weight, the Washable Paper Backpack is less than 1.1lbs and the Mini Cooler is about 5oz, super easy to add to your packing list without making a dent in your luggage allowance.
They’re timelessly stylish
One of the least sustainable aspects of any part of the fashion industry is short-term trends that only last for one or two seasons, but Out of the Woods has designed their range with this in mind.
The backpacks, totes, coolers and lunch bags are all simple but classic silhouettes and they come in a neutral color range that will never go out of style.
