Bulgaria travel guides
Bulgaria deserves wayyy more attention than it gets.
Sofia’s maybe the most underrated foodie city in Europe, with everything from hearty homestyle cuisine to deliciously greasy burgers to some of the most affordable fine dining restaurants I’ve ever come across. Veliko Tarnovo’s hilltop fortress feels like a time capsule, Plovdiv dates back 8000 years with Bulgarian history and culture on full display, and there are mountains, lakes, hiking trails and ski slopes at a fraction of what you’d pay further west.
As of 1 January 2025 Bulgaria joined the Schengen Zone, which is excellent news for the country’s economy and their passport strength (yay!). Unfortunately for us non-Europeans though, this does mean it’s no longer a convenient pitstop to pause the 90-day Schengen clock.
