Beautiful location and lovely hosts. The cabin is everything you would need for a long weekend away and we particularly loved the hot tub and the wood burning fire. Huge bed was really comfortable and we loved being around all the wildlife. We...

It’s quirky with a real homely feel. All the features you could want for a long weekend break in the country/seaside location.

The Tabernacle is a hand built luxury cabin, based on the Cornish portable chapels of the 18th century. It is full of lovely old things, antiques, classic books, vintage games and objets. It has it's own bell tower and a huge stained glass window over the sumptuous king size bed. Interior decor is in Farrow and Ball colours, with amazing wall coverings by wallpaper specialist Timorous Beasties. It has a log burner (free logs), underfloor heating and a private hot tub. The Tabernacle is located in a private paddock, a little way from The Observatory (from which it is separated by a copse of trees), with beautiful unspoiled views down the valley towards the sea. You can walk through the sheep fields on our 13 acres, to a huge pristine beech forest beyond - forest bathing on site! For a special occasion you can book one of our Vintage High Teas, or Champagne Breakfast Hamper, delivered to your door. We are a licenced venue for civil ceremonies, so for a special anniversary, ask us about Renewal of Vows — this can be with a registrar and/or specialist celebrant. We also host small bespoke weddings where you can be married in front of the stained glass Ocean Window in the Studio.
Our place is intentionally small and beautiful — it has long been our dream to create a unique "couples retreat" with Wow Factor. When we introduce people to the Tabernacle for the first time, as we walk away we pause briefly and wait for it — 9 times out of 10 it comes — "Wow!!". We have a little smile and continue on our way. Paul, who used to be head of a large art school up country, is a practicing artist with a studio on site. The studio gallery is open for you to visit, and drawing courses are also available. We meet every guest with a personal welcome and introduction to the property. It is rumoured that there is a welcome pack of home made scones, cornish clotted cream and jam (made from berries from our woodland), but don't tell anyone...
The beautiful Cornish seaside towns of Fowey, Looe and Polperro are within easy reach. There are a wide range of restaurants from gourmet fish and chips to fine dining, and some lovely original fishermens' pubs, such as The Blue Peter at Polperro (with great food), or the Old Ferry Inn at Bodinnick. There are many local coves and beaches to discover, with the South West Coastal Path nearby. The Eden Project is a must, as are the Lost Gardens of Helligan and Lanhydrock. This is a great central location from which to plan your day trips, and just about anything you can think of is available: sea fishing trips, cycling, hiking, boat hire, kayaking, surfing... there is a zip wire at the Eden Project, and many cosy little tea and cake shops for the rest of us. After a day exploring the many delights of what is known as “hidden Cornwall“ come back to your cosy cabin, pour a drink, fire up the barbeque, and relax in the hot tub under the stars - we have some of the darkest skies In Europe, the stars are amazing…
